FEATURE • FACIAL RECOGNITION ATTENDANCE
Attendance your field team can't fake.
Selfie-based check-ins with on-device facial recognition and GPS verification. Buddy punching becomes impossible. Fake attendance drops to zero. And none of it requires expensive biometric hardware.
The Buddy Punching Problem
Buddy punching costs Indian businesses more than most realise.
One employee marks attendance for three friends on a shared WhatsApp group.
A field rep sends his brother to check in at the office while he stays home. A night-shift worker clocks in for his colleague who won't arrive until noon. Every one of these is "buddy punching" — and every Indian business with a field team has it happening, whether they know it or not.
Industry studies estimate buddy punching costs 2–5% of total payroll.
For a 50-person field team earning ₹20,000/month on average, that's ₹2.4–6 lakhs a year paid to people who didn't show up. That's before counting the downstream damage: fake attendance distorts your productivity metrics, punishes honest employees, and turns your workplace culture into one where the smart move is to cheat the system.

How It Works
How facial recognition attendance works in MyFieldHeroes
One-time enrollment. Two-second check-in. Zero ways to fake it
Enrollment — one-time
60-second setup, done once
During onboarding, each field employee takes a few selfies from different angles. MyFieldHeroes processes these on the employee’s own phone and creates a secure face template — a mathematical representation of the face, not the actual photos.
The template is stored encrypted on the device. The original photos are never uploaded to a server.
- Employee takes selfies from 3 angles
- Face template created on-device
- Template stored encrypted locally
- Original photos never leave the phone
Every check-in going forward
2 seconds. Every day. No excuses.
When the employee opens the app to mark attendance, the front camera activates. The employee takes a quick selfie. The app compares the new selfie against the enrolled face template — locally, on the device, in under 2 seconds.
If the face matches and the GPS location is within the geofence, the check-in is accepted. If either check fails, the attendance is rejected and the manager is notified immediately.
- Employee opens app → camera activates
- Face matched against template on-device
- GPS location verified against geofence
- Check-in accepted or rejected instantly
Face data that never leaves the phone.
Most facial recognition systems send the employee’s selfie to a cloud server for processing. It’s convenient for the vendor, but it means every selfie of every employee, every day, ends up on someone else’s computer — a privacy risk, a compliance risk, and often a DPDP Act violation waiting to happen.
MyFieldHeroes works differently. The face matching engine runs entirely on the field employee’s own device. Only a yes/no result is sent to the server. The actual face data — the selfies, the templates, the biometric information — never leaves the phone.
On-device processing
Face matching runs locally, not in the cloud. Zero biometrics transmitted.
Zero cloud storage of biometrics
Face templates never leave the device — not during enrollment, not during check-in, not ever.
DPDP Act 2023 compliant
Biometric data handling built for Indian privacy law from the ground up.

Low light / nighttime check-ins
The app uses the phone's flash and adaptive brightness to handle early-morning and late-evening check-ins. Accuracy in typical Indian dawn/dusk conditions stays above 95%.

Glasses, caps, and masks
The system handles glasses and caps without issues because enrollment captures multiple angles. Face masks are detected — the employee is prompted to lower the mask briefly for verification.

Changes in appearance
Grew a beard? Changed glasses? Normal appearance changes are handled gracefully — the system adapts over time. For major changes, re-enrollment takes 60 seconds.

Identical twins
Facial recognition struggles with identical twins — this is true of every facial recognition system on earth, not just ours. We recommend combining face recognition with a secondary factor (PIN or voice).

Multiple employees sharing a phone
MyFieldHeroes is designed for one employee per device, the industry norm. If you share phones across shifts, we recommend dedicated devices — the ₹149/user/month pricing makes this economically viable.

Photo / screenshot spoofing
Liveness detection catches all photo-based spoofing attempts. The system looks for micro-movements, blinking, and depth cues that static images can't replicate. All attempts are logged and flagged.
Everything facial recognition attendance should do.
Facial recognition isn’t magic. Here’s how MyFieldHeroes handles the scenarios every field team actually runs into.
Fast on-device matching
Template-based, not photo-based
Fully offline-capable
GPS + face combined
Liveness detection
Failed-match alerts
Industry use cases
Where facial recognition makes the biggest difference
Right professional at the right clinic, every time
Clinics & Healthcare
Visiting doctors, pharmacy staff, and mobile healthcare workers across multiple clinic locations. Facial attendance ensures the right professional is present — critical for patient care continuity and medical insurance compliance.
Attendance fraud drops to near-zero within month one
FMCG Field Sales
Stop the “my colleague marked me present” scam that plagues large field sales teams. Every salesman checks in with their own face, from their own phone, at the first retailer of the day.
Proves which technician was at which address and when
Cable Operator Technicians
Service technicians dispatched to customer homes often work across multiple sites. Facial attendance with GPS verification proves who was where — critical for SLA compliance and customer dispute resolution.

Questions people ask before Signing Up.
Under typical conditions — reasonable lighting, enrolled face, no major appearance changes — accuracy is above 99%. Accuracy drops in very low light, with heavily obscured faces, or when the enrolled template is outdated. We handle these cases with flash support, prompts to remove masks or sunglasses, and periodic re-enrollment recommendations.
Yes. Facial recognition in MyFieldHeroes is optimised to run on entry-level and mid-range Android phones — the typical hardware used by Indian field employees. We don’t require a neural engine chip, flagship processor, or high-end camera. Any phone with a front-facing camera and Android 8 or later can run the feature.
Yes — with conditions. Under the DPDP Act 2023, you can use facial recognition for employee attendance provided you get explicit employee consent, clearly state the purpose, limit use to that purpose, and protect the biometric data with appropriate security. MyFieldHeroes handles the technical requirements. We can share consent language for your employment contracts during onboarding.
Employers can require facial recognition attendance as a condition of field employment — but consent must be explicit and the employee must know before joining. For existing employees who refuse, most teams offer a fallback (PIN-based check-in with supervisor verification) while phasing in the policy. We recommend discussing this with your HR team before rollout.
No. MyFieldHeroes uses liveness detection to confirm the face in front of the camera is real and present — not a photo, screenshot, or printout. The system looks for micro-movements, blinking, and depth cues that static images can’t fake.
Because face templates are stored locally on each employee’s device (not on our servers), they’re removed when the app is uninstalled. For additional assurance, we provide an explicit “delete biometric data” option in the admin panel that remotely wipes face templates from all devices. We can provide a data deletion certificate for compliance purposes.
End buddy punching.
